Welcome to Historic Henderson, Texas, founded in 1843 during the days of the Republic of Texas. Henderson should be on anyone's list of not-to-be-missed places in East Texas!
A State and National Main Street City, Henderson has restored buildings filled with shops and restaurants. A downtown walking tour helps visitors appreciate the beauty of this friendly community of 11,000 people. Visit in spring for wildflower trails, summer brings patriotic parades, fall is rodeo time and November (2nd Saturday) is the one-of-a-kind Syrup Festival. Ending the year is Christmas with all of its holiday sparkle. "Home for the Holidays in Henderson" is the first weekend in December with historic home tours, a lighted parade, a seasonal play at the historic Opera House theater downtown, wagon rides and caroling downtown and Breakfast with Santa at the Rusk County Library. Downtown stores also roll out the welcome mat with a "Shopping Spectacular" for this event.
Throughout the year, the Main Street Program seeks to make downtown the jewel of Henderson with continued restoration and reuse of buildings and recruitment of new business to the heart of the city. The first downtown lofts are now being planned for our historic city.
